Museum Tours:

The Cultural Centre – Townsville has a museum style gallery which is a keeping place for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, artefacts, stories and culture.

The Gallery is divided in two sections and represents the Aboriginal custodian groups of the Wulgurukabba people and the Bindal people alongside a section dedicated to the Torres Strait Islander culture.

Visitors to the Centre can follow a timeline of local history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Townsville and learn about the stories and culture of both Indigenous groups.

Learn how the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of North Queensland were involved in the cattle, pearling, rail and sugar industries of the region.

The gallery also contains many historical artefacts, weapons and tools of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of the region. Take a guided tour and step into the lives of the oldest living culture in the world.

The gallery has 3 audio visual pods where you can sit down, relax and listen to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders telling their personals stories.

Listen to elders talking about life on Palm Island, the rituals of dance and performance, traditional language and the stories of their ancestors.

You also need to view the ‘100 faces wall’ which depicts the diversity of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Townsville.

Entry to the Gallery is $5.50 per person.

The Gallery is open from 9.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
